How Reliable is Your Data Centre Server?

If you’ve got a server, or data centre, then you’ll know how important it is to keep it running smoothly, with no power outages or unexpected failures.

Here’s what you need to think about, concerning the reliability of your servers.

1. If your network is often going down, or drives are not available, or programmes are slow and unreliable, then it might be to do with the network, and your servers. If your servers are too hot, then they won’t be working at their optimum temperature, which will make them unreliable.

2. Perhaps you spend a lot of your time setting installing UPS systems for your servers, as the power to your servers keeps going down. Why not see if you can make your power supply more reliable?

3. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a huge conglomerate, or small firm, your staff, suppliers and customers will rely on your computer system, and if your data centre server isn’t up to the jib, then it can mean that there are delays, or even lost business.

4.

Your server room needs to be kept cool, and ideally will need air conditioning, so that you can set the temperature of the room. If your servers and network are unreliable, why not see if you can install air conditioning, and keep your servers coo land more reliable?

5. You might never need to go in your server room, or you might spend all your time in there, but you’ll still want to know exactly what’s going on on your network. You’ll want to make sure that you have accurate and comprehensive server room monitoring

6. Your network cabling might be quite simple, or it might run into thousands of cables to connect staff to the server. You’ll want to make sure that you’re using good quality cable so that you don’t have to test every cable when there’s a problem with the data centre server.

7.

There is likely to be a considerable cost when a product needs replacing. Whether you need a new server, additional or replacement hard drives, or another UPS, it’ll be expensive and could have been avoided.

8. As well as the financial cost of buying new a data centre server, or UPS, there’s the inconvenience. You’ll have to spend time sorting it out and installing it. Other jobs might take second place, and you might have to work late into the night. If you’d made sure that your network was working properly then this sort of situation could have been avoided.

9. The cost of downtime can run into a lot of money very quickly. Your staff might not be able to work properly, customers might not be able to buy from you, and suppliers might not be able to get paid on time.

10. Your data centre server should be properly maintained so that it is working well, and is less likely to fail. You can’t buy on cost alone, and so you’ll need to ensure that it’s well looked, which will help to make it more reliable.

Now you know how reliable your data centre server is, does it need to be more reliable?
